Running through the centre of the village is the High Street, home to Mrs Goggins's Post Office and shop, an unofficial meeting place for residents. In the more recent series, Greendale became a big, busy village situated in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside.
The gentle pace of life allowed Pat plenty of time to enjoy the countryside as he passed through, or even stop on quiet days to have a picnic.

In the original series (1 and 2), it was a small village with narrow, winding roads. Greendale has a different character in the various Postman Pat series. Postman Pat is set in the fictional village of Greendale and the nearby town of Pencaster, on the border between Cumbria and North Yorkshire.

Following the success of the first series, four TV specials and a second series of 13 episodes were produced during the 1990s. John Cunliffe wrote the original treatment and scripts for the series, which was directed by animator Ivor Wood, who also worked on The Magic Roundabout, The Wombles, Paddington, and The Herbs. Postman Pat 's first 13-episode series was screened on BBC One in 1981. The series follows the adventures of Pat Clifton, a postman who works for Royal Mail postal service in the fictional village of Greendale (inspired by the real valley of Longsleddale near Kendal). If you miss you have to get Pat out of the van using the Fire button and guide him to pick up the letter and then try again. To deliver a letter just press the Fire button as you pass the house.
Letters are delivered to the houses which flash as you pass them. You can drive around the village (and can reverse if you need to turn around) in order to find your friend's house and deliver the parcel. It will be either a number of letters or a parcel for one of Pat's friends. Goggins will tell Pat what he must deliver. You start the game by finding the Post Office where Mrs. You can help Pat and Jess to get the job done by guiding their van around the village. Parcels, letters and all sorts of odd jobs would keep him very busy. Little did he know that he would be rushed off his feet by all the work that faced him this morning as he did his round of Greendale. This is from the back of the cassette's (or disk's, for the case of the Commodore Amiga version) inlay card, the front of which is shown in the image to the right (Pat stood with some of the other villagers): It seemed just another day to Pat as he climbed out of bed.

Postman Pat: The Computer Game is an action game that was developed by Enigma Variations for Alternative Software and released on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC in 1988, and the Commodore Amiga in 1989 it is, again, based on that Woodland Animations television series of the same name (which had originally aired upon BBC1 from September to December 1981).
